Who can I talk to about an abortion?
Once you are sure you are pregnant there are people you can talk to if you are considering an abortion. The following services can help you:
- fpa’s helpline
- the fpa unplanned pregnancy counselling service in Northern Ireland
- a contraception or sexual health clinic
- a young people’s clinic (there will be an upper age limit)
- your general practice
- a private abortion clinic (you can refer yourself to these clinics).
Abortions can be done free on the NHS but you will need a referral to the abortion service. If you don’t want to go to your general practice or you are not registered it is best to seek help from a contraceptive clinic in the area where you live. This can help avoid delays in referring you for an abortion or you can go to private abortion clinic.
